Shabby Chic
Shabby Chic was a phrase coined by designer Rachel Ashwell but now it has become a brand that is synonymous with her design and chosen lifestyle.
Rachel’s belief and style create the ability for the home to be lovely as well as really lived in. It should be totally warm and inviting making any guest feel like they are right at home.
Creating a Comfortable Space
Flea markets and grandmas’ old stored furniture are great places to start. Painting all of it white will give a fresh start to old things and lends a bit of style and sophistication.
Compliment the fresh white paint with pastel colors, faded florals and stripes. Add slipcovers, throws or quilts to furniture. Introduce any type of vintage items you can come across like linens, bedspreads and area rugs. It’s ok, mix up the colors and patterns; add more texture. Create new purpose and functions for items that you find. Like old chests or trunks can make wonderful coffee or end tables. Do whatever it takes to make it your perfect space.
Use anything you love and make it work. It is what this style is all about; feeling the comfort when you enter the space. Wanting to put your feet up on the sofa and curl up with a good book.
